THE Whitsunday Christian College farmyard-themed open day fair will be different to events from any other year.

Featuring helicopter rides, dodgem cars and pony rides, there will be no bored faces.

The long-awaited mud dunk competition will also finally see the student's teacher of choice dumped in mud, following weeks of student voting.

Open day fair co-ordinator Maree Foote said the fair will showcase the students impressive achievements.

"Our hall will have class displays, an art exhibition, woodwork display and a baking competition where students can show what they have learned in home economics," she said.

The baking competition will have a specific focus on cake decoration.

Ms Foote said the event would be a great day for parents and students.

"The cruise and car display will be open so that is something dad can look at while mum is looking at the cakes," she said.

"We also have a scarecrow competition this year that will transfer to a final competition on the day and the winner at the end of the night wins a Go Pro."

As parents and students enter the fair they will notice an animal farm complete with bales of hay and barnyard animals.

There is something for everyone at the fair whether you are a family on a tight budget or looking to occupy the kids time with show rides and farm animals.

Principal Melissa Hanrahan said anyone wanting to learn more about the school is invited.

"It's a good opportunity for parents to come and have a good feel for what our school is about because there is a great community feel on the day," she said.

Unlimited ride pass tickets are available for $30 at reception or can be bought at the fair.

There will be fireworks at 7pm.

A school information stand will be available for parent inquiries.

Maree Foote thanked major sponsors Whitsunday Food Services, Burn ups Furniture, Angel Signs, Whitsunday Helipad and Doctors 4 You for helping make the event possible.

The open day fair is on this weekend, October 15, from 2-7pm.
