WHEN Ruby Goldsmith saddled up her pony Bordershow Moonlight and entered the undercover arena, she wasn't expecting to take the blue ribbon.
Pushing her nerves aside, the 11-year-old nevertheless put her horse through its paces under the adjudicator's direction, lined up to be judged and when her number was called, smiled as she went to the front of the group.
She had just been named the winner of the Child's Ridden Pony under 12.2 hands.
"I'm really happy with it - I never thought I would win," Ruby said.
"I only started riding about a year ago so I never thought it would happen.
"I was very nervous going in because you never know what will happen."
But this young rider has natural ability on her side it seems and was also named the Riding Pony Reserve Champion earlier in the morning.
The Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show is the first Ruby has entered and following her win, she said she'd be back next year.
