SHE plays the bright and business-savvy Frances on Winners and Losers.
And it seems Virginia Gay also likes her cars with smarts - and some firepower.
What was your first car?
A Honda Concerto. I bought it (very) second-hand from a dealership because I liked the word "concerto" and it was cheap. Sadly it was cheap because all the parts were specific to it and were outrageously expensive.
It was like buying a cheap printer then realising the toner cartridges were three times the price of the original machinery. Its head gasket went and it was roughly the price of the car to replace it.
What are you driving now and what do you love about it?
A black Hyundai i30. I bought it because I've driven a lot of Hyundais as rentals and I liked them a great deal (very spacious, while still being a super compact car) but I found the i20s didn't have enough torque, enough get up and go.
The i30, which is a 2.0-litre, bloody well does. You just have to think about accelerating and it's already revving.
What cars did your family have while you were growing up?
A series of gorgeous, ancient Peugeots - 505 and 405s, I think - the oldest one had one of those glorious bank seats across the front.
I wish we still had it. The latest one, which was my father's pride and joy, was torched by someone on the street. Bastards! In the middle of quiet suburbia too. Was all very shocking and strange and heartbreaking for my dear dad.
What is your greatest frustration on the road?
People who don't give the "thank you" courtesy wave. What is with you people? I have let you in. I have helped make your day better. You don't have the emotional strength to raise your hand from the wheel for one second to say "I see what you did there and ta"? Manners, people. Manners.
Do you have any preferred driving music?
Triple J if I'm just fanging around, classical music if I'm stuck in traffic in an attempt to soothe me and podcasts if I'm going for long drives by myself. Dan Savage or This American Life.
If you were to take anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be?
Mel Vallejo. We've done it before and we know how to have an absolutely wicked time. Or Tina Fey. Or Amy Poehler. Or Louie CK? All of the above? That'd be a fun car.
What is your dream car?
Silver Aston Martin shell with a totally renewable-energy engine inside. Or maybe the paint itself is all solar gathering ... #thefuture.
