SURPRISE packet Bee Jays Abundance held off a strong field to claim the Darling Downs Breeders G.W. McClymont Memorial final (1660m) at Clifford Park yesterday.
The five-year-old started from the second row and stunned the likes of pre-race favourite and first qualifier Forever Perfect with win for trainer-driver Steve Burke.
Yesterday was the second of two year-ending TAB meetings for the Darling Downs Harness Racing Club and a successful day for the home track trainers.
Six of the eight races went the way of the Darling Downs, and club secretary Anthony Collins said it showed the strength of Clifford Park harness racing.
"It's a big coup because we haven't really got that many trainers up here," he said.
"Throughout the afternoon the tote holds got better and better. The thing in the past was you always got value there at Toowoomba.
"That's what makes it so favourable for punters. They like to see a bit of value.
"There is a definite need for a track like Toowoomba to be on the weekly TAB roster."
