A HERD of colourful cows that set up base in a Toowoomba paddock has had the whole city talking this week.

The colourful creations were hard to miss after being erected on the corner of Alderley St and Anzac Ave.

Spearhead of the Cow Art campaign from Cows Create Careers Paul Blinco has set up 24-hour camp next to the herd, pitched in a field adjacent to the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery.

Here there are more than 1000 creations on show to the public this week and next.

"It's mind-boggling the human effort that has gone into it," Mr Blinco said.

The project was initiated by Cows Create Careers to coincide with the Year of the Farmer.

It had an initial goal of getting 365 cows decorated but soon turned into a nation-wide project, with cows being returned from all over the country.

He encouraged visitors to head along sooner rather than later to look at the cows, in order to see them at their best before the elements get to them.

There are also blank cow canvasses at the site to buy and decorate for visitors.
