Strong market greets Greys sale

SIX-hundred grown cattle were sold on a very strong market at Saturday's annual Murray Grey and Store Sale.

Murray Grey bulls sold from $1800-$2400, Murray Grey cows and calves topped at $1250 with plainer types ranging from $550-$950.

Murray Grey heifers, unjoined 12-16 months, ranged from $550-$700, with plainer types making $260-$400.

In the All Breed Store Sale, three-year-old steers topped at $840 with most younger steers 7-12 months making $350-$500. Leaner heifers sold from $250-$500.

Cows and calves hovered around $680 to top at $940 for the best, whilst plainer cows and calves realised $450-$600.

On Tuesday, 300 vealers and cows sold on a solid market.

Veal, up to 240kg, topped at 193c with most between 182-188c/kg. Calves in the 180-230kg weight bracket ranged from 168-180c/kg, while heavier plain veal were 140c/kg to 175c/kg.

The cow market was good again, with the best cows ranging from 138-150c/kg. The next run were 119c-134c/kg, while plainer types made 65-96c/kg. Bulls topped at 149c/kg.
