Steers see top of 442c/kg at weekly sales

A YARDING of 2772 head was presented at Gracemere on June 16, comprised of 1298 steers, 1115 heifers, 304 cows, 26 x 26 cows and calves, and 28 bulls.

Quality was mixed in places but generally very good.

The cattle came from the local area mostly, along with lines from west of Clermont, Collinsville and Moranbah.

Most of the regular buyers were present and kept the light cattle and calves up to recent prices but some of the heavy lines and slaughter cattle were a little easier on last week's rates.

Steers to slaughter topped 300c/kg to average 274c/kg with a -4 drop in the market.

Steers 400 to 500kg topped 322c/kg to average 293c/kg with a -11 drop in the market.

Steers 300 to 400kg topped 380c/kg to average 307c/kg with a -8 drop in the market.

Steers 200 to 300kg topped 406c/kg to average 359c/kg.

Steers under 200kg topped 442c/kg to average 419c/kg with a +34 lift in the market.

Cows to slaughter topped 270c/kg to average 233c/kg with a -5 drop in the market.

Cows in the 400 to 450kg weight range topped 260c/kg to average 213c/kg, firm.

Cows 320 to 400kg topped 207c/kg to average 163c/kg with a -17 drop in the market.

Heavy heifers went for a top of 280c/kg to average 266c/kg with a +6 rise in the market.

Heifers 300 to 400kg topped 323c/kg to average 282c/kg while heifers 200 to 300kg topped 336c/kg to average 292c/kg.

Heifers under 200kg topped 338c/kg to average 324c/kg.

Cows and calves topped $1600 to average $1500.

Bulls over 600kg topped 246c/kg to average 224c/kg with a -16 drop in the market.

Bulls 450 to 600kg topped 260c/kg to average 235c/kg while bulls under 450kg topped 350c/kg to average 310c/kg.

HIGHLIGHTS

Greenlake Station, Rossmoya, sold a run of 476 brahman cross weaner steers to top at 442c/kg and average 175kg to return $750 per head.

They also sold a run of 309 brahman cross weaner heifers to top at 338c/kg to weigh 167kg to return $557 per head.

Harry Walker, Gogango, sold droughtmaster weaner steers to top at 398c/kg, weighing 251kg to return $999 per head.

G & L Ohl, Baralaba, sold steers for 294c/kg to return $1159 per head.
