AHEAD of a new season of The Block starting later this month, we threw Foreman Keith Schleiger and Foreboy Dan Reilly our searching motoring questions to find out about their life with cars.
What was your first car?
Keith: It was a black Holden HQ station wagon worth about $600. It had a rusty roof with holes in it and water would gush in when it rained.
Dan: I had a 1996 VS Commodore. She was called the silver bullet and from memory I sold her for $1000. I don't think I ever had it serviced.
What are you driving now?
Keith: I've upgraded a bit and I now drive a black Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD. It's such a luxury 4WD, it's so unreal to drive and very comfortable for the whole family. I was lucky and bought it with all the extras and it has so much power.
Dan: I'm currently driving a Mazda BT-50 and it drives like a dream. I love having an automatic car again and it's the first time I've ever had cruise control!
What cars did your family have while you were growing up?
Keith: Dad had a 1973 light blue Holden Belmont sedan. It used to have a habit of getting stuck in second gear at major intersections which caused a huge amount of stress for our family!
Dan: I can't remember exactly what car mum and dad had but it was a Ford. It reminded me of a car used in a murder show back in the 80's.
What is your greatest frustration on the road and why?
Keith: I get frustrated when I drive along the Monash Freeway. I cannot for the life of me understand why the speed limit is 80 instead of 100.
Dan: My biggest frustration is the Bolte bridge exit to the Burnley tunnel (in Melbourne). It's only one lane wide and is always a bottle neck, it always takes me that much longer to get home.
What's your favourite place in the world to drive?
Keith: I love driving along the Mornington Peninsular Freeway in Melbourne. It's such a beautiful drive and cuts our travel time to the beach in Portsea in half.
Dan: Dani and I went to Europe in the summer of 2009, we hired a Ford Transit and drove everywhere around Europe, it was pretty awesome.
Do you have any preferred driving music?
Dan: I love having the radio on and typically it's tuned to Triple J.
If you were to pick anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be and why?
Keith: I'd have to choose funnyman Mick Molloy. He is hilarious and would keep me entertained on a long journey.
Dan: I think I'd choose Prince Harry. We would be treated like royalty everywhere we went, and he loves to party!
Keith: My dream car is a Porsche Cayenne. I love Porsches and love 4WDs, so a Cayenne has been on my wish list for years.
Dan: It's definitely a Winnebago. That way we could live wherever we wanted to.
