Spectacular 2009 Ferrari California drop-top

The Ferrari California.
The Ferrari California.

THIS week I will be featuring this beautiful 2009 Ferrari California with the classic colour combo of Rosso Corsa exterior paint and a beige leather interior.

The California was first shown to the public at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, and it featured many world firsts.

They include the first front-mounted V8 in a Ferrari, the first Ferrari to feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission, the first Ferrari available with a metal-folding hardtop roof, the first Ferrari to feature multi-link rear suspension and it was also the first Ferrari to feature direct petrol injection.

When the California was still in production, it was the cheapest Ferrari available, but it still featured a sweet sounding 4.3-litre V8 engine which is able to produce up to 338kW (453hp) and 7750rpm and 485Nm of torque (358 lb-ft of torque) at 5000rpm.

An impressive amount of power for a GT cruiser.

This Ferrari California also has a kerb weight of 1735 kilograms.

If you're in the market for a fast, sleek drop-top GT cruiser this is the car for you, because even though it can seat 4 people and a bucket load of shopping in the trunk, it is still able to launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour in a mighty 3.9 seconds.

It will also keep accelerating until it reaches its top speed of 309 kilometres per hour (192 miles per hour)... with the top down.

During initial testing, Ferrari spent more than 1000 hours in a wind tunnel perfecting the aerodynamics of the California, and when it was first introduced it was the most aerodynamic Ferrari ever made.

That was until the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta came along at the beginning of 2012.

Some other features that this Ferrari California is equipped with includes a power retractable hardtop, forged alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, a front and rear stabiliser bar, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, a leather interior and more.

The California has now been replaced with the all-new California T, and that features a 3.9 Litre twin-turbocharged V8 which produces more power and a lot more torque that its predecessor. This model is the first turbocharged Ferrari since the iconic Ferrari F40.

You can currently purchase a 2009 Ferrari California for about $280,000 plus on-road costs.
