Smart move

THE Abbott Government's comments it was interested in investing in productive infrastructure showed it was focusing on restoring the economy and improving the nation's bottom line the National Farmers Federation said. NFF president Duncan Fraser said because agriculture was one of the most productive sectors in the country and one of the key reasons Australia avoided a recession during the global financial crisis, this would be a smart move.

NLIS concern

A NATIONAL Livestock Identification Scheme review has some beef producers concerned it may give banks more control of their business. Australian Beef Association director Brad Bellinger told the ABC he'd seen a consultant's report that suggested using data from the NLIS to notify banks when cattle were sold. But Meat and Livestock Australia's Scott Hansen said if producers gave permission, banks could already access producers' NLIS accounts.
