A puzzling cocaine bust

COCAINE hidden inside a jigsaw was literally part and parcel of a 120kg haul of drugs seized after a three-month investigation by the Australian Federal Police.

Operation Glade targeted parcels sent through Customs and Australia's postal system and resulted in 25 arrests and the huge drug haul.

Justice Minister Jason Clare said the bust included 80kg of heroin and more than 6kg of "analogues", or altered drugs.

"As law enforcement seizes more and more illegal drugs, criminals are trying to find new ways to conceal the illegal drugs they are trying to import," he said.

"For example, as part of this blitz Customs and AFP officers discovered almost a kilogram of cocaine hidden inside a jigsaw puzzle and about 2.5kg of methamphetamine hidden inside ceramics."

As part of the operation, the AFP executed 47 search warrants and made nine arrests in New South Wales, three in Queensland, eight in Victoria, four in Western Australia and one in Tasmania.
