BLUE skies and a gentle breeze created perfect conditions as 400 punters gathered trackside in Talwood last weekend.

For the last two years, the Talwood Races have been washed out by floods, so no one was complaining about the red dust being kicked up on the very dry track.

Talwood Racing Club president Michael Pegler said the committee put in a huge effort to repair the flood damage and bring the track back to racing standard in time for the event.

"We're very happy with the results," Mr Pegler said.

"It's a good young crowd and everyone seems to like the warmer weather of our new race date, which is now set for the second weekend in October every year."

He also thanked local sponsors who helped cover the repair costs and got Talwood racing again.
