NNSW cattle wrap: Steers remain strong

BEST: Steve and Judy Pereira, of Braunstone, were selected as the vendor of the week at the Grafton prime cattle sale held on Tuesday. The vendor sold five prime heifers as they reduce stock numbers and prepare their immaculate property for sale. The quality of the property's 55 acres of improved pasture reflected in the quality of the offering, with the two heifers pictured being amongst the best of the sale. These brahman-cross heifers sold for 277.2c/kg at an average weight of 462.5kg to gross the vendor $1282/head. The sale of the property and cattle is managed by Ray Donovan Stock and Station Agents.

300 cattle were sold at Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday.

Prime vealers weighing in the 200-260kg range sold from $3.20-3.48/kg for healthy returns of $680-905.

Heavy vealer/weaner steers sold to backgrounds for $3.40-4kg.

The Wellman family's charolais steers sold for $3.98/kg, $975.

Lou and Ida Pirlo's charolais steers sold for $3.94/kg, $965.

Classy limousin steers off Kyogle sold for $3.88kg, $954.

Heavy steers, bullocks and cows sold at recent strong rates.

Four tooth bullocks tipped at $2.88/kg.

Heavy cows $2.20-2.40 and medium cows $1.90-2.20/kg.

Damian Frawley's charbray cow topped at $1572.

605 cattle at Grafton on Monday.

The market for bullocks and cows was 7-10c/kg dearer with the best slaughtered bullocks selling to 313c/kg.

Heavy cows sold to 256c/kg.

Vealers to processors also dearer by 5-7c/kg topping at 354c/kg.

Restockers followed this strong trend with angus weaner steers selling to 488c/kg.

AT Jeffries bullocks sold to 305c/kg, weighed 660kg and returned $2007/hd.

Jikero Partnership heavy yearlings made 350c/kg, weighed 460kg and returned $1602/hd.

AL Bowling bullocks sold to 302c/kg, weighed 570kg and returned $1714/hd.

PL Surawski heavy yearlings sold to 340c/kg, weighed 473kg and returned $1603/hd.

A & M Giffin santa feeder steers made 360c/kg, weighed 380kg and returned $1357/hd.

M McKeown heifers sold to 274c/kg, weighed 550kg and returned $1497/hd.

McLennan & James heifers made to 260c/kg, weighed 478kg and returned $1233/hd.

THERE were 605 head yarded at Grafton Fat Cattle Sale on Tuesday.

Numbers lifted by 200 head in an excellent sale overall.

A full panel of export buyers were in attendance and competed fiercely, lifting the market 5-10c/kg for bullocks and cows.

Vealers also followed this trend, topping at 354c/kg.

Re-stockers were firm on last week's rates.

Leo J Carlton sold bullocks 304.2c/kg weighed 605kg - $1840/hd.

LJ & VM Jefferies sold bullocks 303.2c/kg weighed 715kg - $2167/hd.

PJ & WJ Beel sold steers 312.2c/kg weighed 623.8kg - $1947/hd.

Also sold cows 253.2c/kg weighed 580kg - $1468/hd.

The Fred Morgan Family Trust sold heifers 283.2c/kg weighed 535kg - $1515/hd.

Also sold vealer steers 352.2c/kg weighed 215kg - $757/hd.

SJ & JA Pereira sold heifers 277.2c/kg weighed 462.5kg - $1282/hd.

DW & LF Green sold cows 255.2c/kg weighed 635kg - $1620/hd.

DJ Bowles sold cows 246.2c/kg weighed 580kg - $1427/hd.
