GRAZIERS can now keep all their stocking rates and carrying capacity in their top pocket, with a new Future Beef smartphone application launched this week.
With the backing of Meat and Livestock Australia, the Queensland Government and the industry FutureBeef initiative, the app creates a single information source to help manage stock and pastures.
The free Stocktake Plus app can work on any smartphone, even outside of telephone range, to help make crucial management decisions whether out in the paddock or away from home.
Agriculture Minister John McVeigh said anything that could help primary producers to lift their productivity should be welcomed.
He said the app had been developed with the industry to complement the growing use of information technology in grazing operations.
MLA natural resource management project manager Cameron Allan said a quarter of all producers were already using smartphones, and the use of mobile technology was growing quickly.
"The Stocktake Plus app puts a property's pasture records at your fingertips.
The app is available for free download from www.stocktakeplus.com.au.
