A MAN in his 30s has suffered a serious eye injury this morning after the blade from an angle grinder shattered in his face.

The Benarkin man was sharpening mower blades using an angle grinder when it's believed the blade disintegrated.

The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter team from the Sunshine Coast was immediately tasked to the scene, landing at Benarkin State School oval just after 10am.

CareFlight's medical team, including a critical-care doctor and flight paramedic, provided emergency treatment on-scene before flying the patient to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for further treatment.

The man travelled in a serious but stable condition.
