IT WAS a quiet day at the Toowoomba Saleyards on Monday with only 474 head of cattle yarded.
Elders stock agent Mark Gersekowski said the recent rain meant people were holding onto their cattle.
"I would have lost probably 300 cattle this week,” he said.
"People are holding off, hoping the market might pick up a little bit more.”
Scott Taylor from Millmerran sold three limousin steers for 440 cents per kilo.
The steers were sold for show to Travis Luscombe.
There was a wide variation in quality, although prices improved over most classes with bullocks and young cattle selling for 8-10 cents more than last week, and cows gaining 6-12 cents per kilo.
Neville and Noel Dowling sold 71 head of cattle, with the best feeder steers selling for 275 cents per kilo.
Neville Dowling said after the rain, they would be selling again next week, but holding off after that.
