PAT McMahon purchased a limousin steer for 592.5c at the Toowoomba Saleyards this morning.
"I picked that steer out because I have a few nephews who show led steers, so I picked him out for show prospect,” Mr McMahon said.
"So we'll take him home and break him in and fatten him and hopefully get him to the Brisbane Exhibition or the Ag Show here in September. That's what I'll target him for.
"I like that steer because he's quiet, he's got good temperament. He's got good width in him and a nice eye muscle area, and a nice strong top line. I just think he's a good prospect.”
Mr McMahon runs a meat wholesale business and grain feeding operation with his brother in Killarney.
"We come here every Monday and we buy cattle from producers every week on the downs. That's a main business, showing the cattle is just a sideline for the young people,” he said.
"We have had good successes over the year. We don't target a particular breed, we more look for a particular type of steer.
"More times than enough the limousin cross cattle come up with the right shape and the right carcass type for what you're looking for.”
The steer was sold through Landmark Toowoomba.
