GYMPIE Regional Council will host a public consultation session in Kilkivan today as part of the first stage of its Rural Towns Beautification Program.

Mayor Ron Dyne said the project aimed to contribute to the ongoing sustainability of rural towns by making them more attractive and desirable places to live, work and play.

"Attractive and vibrant centres help encourage investment in commercial, retail and residential development, resulting in improved economic growth and tourism opportunities," Cr Dyne said.

"It's all about enhancing the desirability of towns by building upon the existing character and amenity already enjoyed by residents and visitors, creating a positive image for the region and engendering a strong sense of community pride.

"In order to develop this sense of place and identity, we're keen to hear feedback from the community."

Today will see preliminary ideas and concepts available for viewing, with council staff and project consultants on hand to answer questions and take feedback.

The session will be held from 9am-midday at Kilkivan Public Hall Front Foyer, 31 Bligh St, Kilkivan.

Reply-paid feedback forms will be available, and responses are able to be sent to the council until the close of business on May 3.
