A RAIN reduced yarding of just over 800 head came on offer at the Emerald Cattle Sale on September 23.
The mixed quality yarding attracted a larger panel of restockers, with lightweight cattle coming under very strong competition.
About 250 prime cattle were penned and rates held firm compared to the previous week's sale.
All the usual meatworks buyers were present and competed strongly against feedlot operators on the younger lightweight prime cattle.
A small supply of bullocks topped at 317.2c/kg, which sold to a feedlot buyer. Bullocks averaged 301c/kg to be firm on last sale.
Heavy heifers over 400kg topped at 318.2c/kg to average 311c/kg and be +11c/kg dearer for a limited supply.
Heavy cows over 520kg topped at 256.2c/kg and averaged 254c/kg and were again firm with the previous week's rates.
Weaner steers topped at 414.2c/kg for some light conditioned steers, with steers 220-320kg averaging 397c/kg and +20c/kg dearer.
Weaner heifers in limited supply topped at 369.2c/kg and averaged 340c/kg to be slightly dearer than the last sale.
No cows and calves were offered at the sale.
