Eight-year-old girl drowns at Lake Dyer

AN EIGHT-year-old girl has drowned in a popular swimming and camping spot in Laidley.

Police are investigating the death of the girl at Lake Dyer yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the lake about 3.45pm yesterday after the girl was reported missing by her parents.

Laidley SES, Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service officers were involved in the search and rescue attempt.

The girl was located unconscious in the water near a boat ramp a short time later.

Paramedics worked for more than an hour to try to revive the girl but she was pronounced dead about 4.50pm.

She was rushed to Laidley Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lake Dyer is a popular tourist spot for weekend and day trippers.

It has a caravan park and camping ground on site.

Police were last night trying to ascertain the events leading up to the girl's disappearance.

A report on the incident will be prepared for the Coroner.
