FORAGE oats enthusiasts converged in Gatton on Wednesday for an oats field walk at Advanta Seeds' research facility.

About 30 people attended, including beef and dairy farmers, to see the latest in forage oats research and to discuss stem and leaf rusts, planting populations, row spacing and agronomy.

Attendees were able to inspect about 40 forage oat varieties from the US, which Advanta Seeds is testing for stem and leaf rusts in Australian conditions.

Company representatives said there were several promising varieties involved in the trial.
