THE hot weather and dry conditions are keeping fire fighters busy this season.

In fact The Caves Rural Fire Bbrigade's second officer, Brad Kingston, was on his way to a fire in Jardine, near Yeppoon, when The Bulletin contacted him yesterday.

Mr Kingston said the fire season was off to a busy start.

"We could be going into a fairly heavy season," he said.

"If there's no rain in the next week or so it could be pretty chaotic.

"If anything, it seems to be a bit drier than last year."

Mr Kingston estimated he had been called out to around 25 fires in total in the Rockhampton area since August. this season, which kicked off around August for them.

He said there had been a few back burning operations this year, but in the current weather it was not safe to do this any more.
