IT'S RODEO season in Queensland, with competitors from across the country in Emerald and Roma this weekend for Australian Professional Rodeo Association competitions.
Last weekend it was Comet Rodeo - organised under the Central Rodeo Cowboys Association banner - that drew a crowd of both top quality competitors and enthusiastic spectators.
This week the focus will be on riders from Alton Downs and Mitchell going into the Easter APRA rodeo programs with plenty of confidence after recent victories in Victoria.
Alton Downs rider Brendan Breiner won the saddle bronc ride at Chiltern in Victoria last month with a score of 80. In the first of three Australian Professional Rodeo Association rodeos on the Victorian long weekend, he was equal second on 80 at Kyabram, one point behind former rookie world all around champion Brad Pierce, of Tooma, NSW.
Breiner has moved into 15th spot so will need prize money on Easter Saturday at Emerald or Easter Sunday at Roma to qualify in the top 15 for the May National Finals Rodeo in Caboolture.
The first of three Queensland APRA rodeos at Easter will be a bull ride on Good Friday:
