Field day looks at breeding herds

A GENETICS and breeding herd field day will be held at Wandoo on Saturday, November 2.

Jim Fletcher, Mackay beef extension officer with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, said the main focus would be on practical management of the breeder herd for productivity and profitability.

"The day will incorporate information from speakers on the relevant fields of breeder management and genetics, with information drawn from research across northern Australia," he said.

Producers attending the field day will be expected to participate and ask questions related to their own herds.

"The aim is for producers to identify their issues and drive the focus of the discussions," Mr Fletcher said

The field day will start at 9.30am and finish at 3.30pm.

Wandoo is situated on the Sarina-Marlborough Rd.

Morning tea will be provided but participants are asked to bring their own lunches and chairs.

Producers must register for the event by Tuesday, October 29.

To register and for more information, contact Mr Fletcher, DAFF Mackay, on 4967 0731, mobile 0428 960 572, fax 4951 4509 or email Jim.Fletcher@ daff.qld.gov.com.au.
