THIS Saturday night Mataranka is set to rock with a live music show.

New managers of the Territory Manor Jimmy Anthon and Betty Connor wanted to bring a festival atmosphere to the region.

Jim and Betty moved to the area from Canberra just eight months ago. Both country people at heart, growing up in Dubbo and Bathurst in New South Wales, decided to move to the Territory when the job popped up.

"A mate of mine had been trying to get us to move to the Territory for a while," Jim said.

"It was six weeks between making the decision and moving up here.

"We had a nice flat in Canberra but were complain- ing about our jobs and thought it would be silly to miss out on an opportunity like this."

They arrived at the Manor during wet season, an ideal time according to Jim.

"We saw the beautiful setting here with lots of green grass and big trees and thought it would be the perfect spot to have a bit of a festival," he said.

"I've always been passionate about live music, so we're pretty excited to see how the event goes.

"It's a bit daunting, a lot of people have said they are coming."

Toowoomba, Queensland, folk artist Pepper Jane (as part of her national tour), Darwin lad Marshall Karaitiana and Katherine local Sneeven L Tweed will feature on the night. Action kicks off at 5pm.

Just added to the line-up is Australia's number one whip cracking entertainer Nathan Griggs.

The licensed restaurant will be open to grab dinner and drinks.

There is motel rooms, powered sites and un-powered camping options available.

Phone 8975 4516 or email territorymanor@bigpond.com. au for more information.

Mataranka is 4.5 hours from Darwin and one hour from Katherine.

Jim said if the event was a hit, it would be something they would look at continuing on a regular basis.
