A FARMER working on a property near Taroom was airlifted to Toowoomba yesterday after being crushed by a falling bale of hay.

It's believed the 75-year-old man was working alone on farm land 80km south of Taroom on Friday when the bale of hay crushed him.

Despite being badly injured, the man managed to crawl to a nearby road where a passing motorist called emergency services.

LifeFlight's Roma-based Surat Gas Aero-Medical Service helicopter was called to the scene about 11.30am.

The medical team and Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated the man for pelvis injuries.

He was then airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
