THE dairy industry faces tough times but fifth-generation dairy farmer Matt Henry says the challenges make him more determined to succeed.
The Henry family's Hodgson Vale farm, White Park Illawarras, took out numerous awards at the Royal Queensland Show, including Champion Junior Female and Most Successful Illawarra Exhibitor for the second year in a row.
"It means a lot to you to win because it's like an indication of the strength of all your animals across the whole team as opposed to one individual," Mr Henry said.
"You are judged on the udders, one of the main things obviously, and the overall style of the animal."
Mr Henry runs the 263-hectare farm with his parents Michael and Glenda where they are up every morning milking 120 head in their herringbone dairy.
Included in that is about 162-hectares of cultivation, devoted to growing oats and barley.
The same farm has been in the family since the 1800s.
