IF YOU like fishing, get your rods out this Sunday to help save the Condamine River habitat.

Condamine Headwaters Landcare Group will hold a free fishing competition for Carp Busters Day from 8am until noon.

Landcare co-ordinator Catherine Potter said the initiative provides a better habitat environment for native fish and raises awareness.

"If you can remove some of the carp and encourage the native fish to breed, the native fish will take care of the carp," she said.

Participants must register to be eligible for the competition, which offers a $100 prize for the biggest carp caught.

Sign up at the tents at Tiddalik and Queens Park.

Every registration will receive a free sample bag.
