Bringing back led steer spirit

GOOD SHOW: A chance to show off your ‘cracker’ steer in the Bellinger Valley.

IF YOU'VE got a 'cracker' steer on your place, you have three months to get it ship-shape and broken-in to parade.

Thora cattle breeders Jason and Shannon Scott are giving you plenty of reasons to get organised, sponsoring the led steer competition at the Bellingen Show on May 4-5 to the tune of $250 for the winner.

The owners of the Sowintoo Charolais Stud are keen advocates of steer competitions, having been involved for a long time and enjoying considerable success.

Last year their heavyweight Full French Charolais steer, Sowintoo Freighter, was awarded first place on the hook at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and went on to be named the reserve champion heavyweight carcase.

Jason and Shannon would very much like to see the spirit of led steer competitions return to the Bellinger Valley.

Via their stud operation and their paddock to plate business, they're challenging local beef breeders to break in and bring their best carcase quality led steer to the show.

Jason and Shannon have included one of their steers for the "Guess the Weight of the Steer" Competition, which is being sponsored by Bellingen Butchery with $100 cash to the person who guesses closest to the beast's steers weight. If you've got a steer phone Shannon Scott, on 6655 8505 or 0488 55 44 33, or Maida Bugg, on 6655 3589 or 0417 496 751.
