Animals on guard against predators

JANINE Jamison will talk about how she uses not only maremma dogs but also alpacas and donkeys as guard animals for cattle and other livestock at the Border Landcare Organic Group morning on October 26.

All are welcome at the free event, which will be held at Janine and Ian Jamison's property at Ruby Creek, Maryland.

There are plenty of animals to look at, as well as a large organically run vegetable garden.

In addition, Rex Maddocks will briefly present the results of his garlic growing/fertiliser trials and there will be a free seed swap, so do take any half used packets of seeds as well as lunch to share, and spare produce for the bring and buy stall.

Although the property is in NSW, the event will start at 10am Queensland time.

► Directions: Take the Amosfield Road from Stanthorpe, drive into NSW and turn left into Maryland Road which is the first left after the QLD/NSW border.

Drive almost 1km until you see the Ruby Creek sign on the left, turn right opposite the sign and follow the drive up to the house. Please shut the gate.
