FARMERS in the Southern Downs region will have the opportunity to diversify into tourism through a business development program next month.
Run by Southern Downs and Granite Belt Regional Tourism, the program will have 15 places available for farmers and producers who are interested in nature-based or food tourism.
Those interested are invited to attend a field day on June 5 from 9am-3.30pm to learn more about the agritourism concept.
Regional tourism development officer for South East Queensland Country Julie McMurtrie encouraged farmers to see the potential tourism can bring to their business.
"Farmers are the custodians of the most beautiful places in our region and often do things visitors are interested in," Ms McMurtrie said.
"It's a great opportunity for farmers who could do with another income source."
For more information, or to register, contact Ms McMurtrie by June 1 at firstname.lastname@example.org or 0437 008 712.
