COUNTDOWN is on until Kia's all-new fourth-generation Rio is revealed in the metal at the Paris Motor Show late this month, but we now have a teaser set of images.
The little five-door hatch's new look is courtesy of Kia's design HQ in Korea with the collaboration of its design centres in Germany and California, and features the latest evolution of the brand's "tiger-nose" grille, which is now thinner in height but wider across the front of the car.
There are thinner headlamps too projecting a U-shaped LED, fog lamps are redesigned and re-positioned, and the whole car is a tad wider (5mm) to give the Rio a more grown-up look.
Overall length is up 15mm, wheelbase grows 10mm, but height is down 5mm. The dimension changes are there to give the Rio a "more stable, confident look".
The cabin has been tarted up too, Kia running with more modern sculptural forms and more ergonomic layout than its predecessor.
The dashboard features a new infotainment system using a "floating" human-machine interface (reducing the number of centre console buttons) with high-res touchscreen for the Rio's audio, navigation and connectivity systems.
Seats are covered in a black or grey cloth upholstery, or as you move up the range, black or grey faux leather. Sporty types can option a "Red Pack" bringing Rio buyers black with red artificial leather-trimmed seats.
Kia says its new Rio will offer "class-leading practicality and safety technology, the latest connectivity features, and more assured and engaging ride and handling characteristics."
From that we can glean that hopefully the new Rio will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, something proving incredibly important and a bit of a deal breaker in this light car segment.
Production of the new Rio should be very late 2016 or early 2017 for the Australian market, so we can expect to see the hatch's arrival soon after this.
The current Rio three-door hatch starts from $15,990 before on-roads, and the five-door $16,990 before on-roads.
