Emerald cattle sales

A BETTER yarding of 2252 head of cattle were penned at Emerald last Thursday comprising of 191 bullocks, 140 feeder steers and 788 weaners and backgrounder steers, with quality improving on last week and prices improving across most descriptions.

Bullocks topped out at 177.2c/kg for heavy grain assist types, feeder steers met with strong competition to top at 185c while quality weaner steers topped at 225c/kg.

507 heifers yarded with weaner heifers topped at 193.2c/kg while heavy heifers topped at 188c/kg.

601 cows yarded with good runs of cows for the processors topped at 159.2c/kg with better types averaging 142c/kg, with lighter cows selling to 149c to average 133c/kg.

25 bulls were yarded to top at 133.2c for bulls over 600 kg.

Helen Bell, Blue Hills, Yamala, sold her quality droughtmaster-cross bullocks for 174.2c/kg for a very good weight of 734kg to return to the vendor $1278.63/head

Darryl Rodgers, Riverside, Alpha, sold nice charolais-cross weaner steers for 203.2c/kg to weigh 256kgs to return $520/head, while their sisters made 184.2c/kg to weigh 226kg and return $416.75/head

Andy Powell, Dysart Station, Dysart, topped the cow section at 159.2c/kg for excellent charbray types to weigh 600kgs and return $955.20/head

Hillside Grazing, Hillside, Springsure, sold quality santa cows to 150.2c/kg to weigh 598.8kg and return $899.32/head

Robert and Kylie Cunningham, Myrtle Park, Comet sold good quality heavy charolais/santa-cross heifers weighing 556kg to make 161.2c/kg and return $896/head

Gordon and Betty Bridgeman, Glenlee, Springsure, sold good quality charolais-cross weaner steers weighing 258kg to make 204.2c/kg and return $528/head

George, Marie and Steve Saunders, Medway Park, Bogantungan, sold a good quality line of charolais, droughtmaster and brahman-cross steers to top at 212.2c/kg to weigh on average 264kg and return $552/head. The lead pen of charolais weaner steers made 210.2c/kg weighing 314kg and returning $660/head

Ken and Evelyn O'Brien, Myrtle Park, Comet, sold good quality santa-cross cows weighing 616kg to make 141.2c/kg and return $869/head
