LONG-time committee member of Mackay Rural Production Society, Rob Denman was honoured for his contribution to the Society at its Christmas break-up at Marian Community Hall recently.

Former president Lindsay Williams said Mr Denman, like himself and a few other MRPS members had been a member of the Tropical Grasslands Society.

However, they were not happy with input from the organisation and went as a delegation to discuss changes and when there was no compromise the MRPS was formed more than 40 years ago.

Mr Williams outlined Mr Denman's dedication to committees and said he was beef cattle president and now president of the Mackay Show Association.

MRPS president Graeme Cowley presented the MRPS gift to Mr Denman.

Mr Denman said he had enjoyed the long association with MRPS and had made many friends and been on many great trips with members.

He outlined the progress on the $30 million upgrade of the Mackay Showgrounds, the first development being the second story on the 500 pavilion, a new toilet block and the massive shed of 4000 sq m which would be half enclosed and an open end.

Stage two would include four new pavilions and he said all sectors of the show would be catered for in the new development with an entirely new arena.
