It's time to have your say on Qld agriculture strategy

MINISTER John McVeigh recently released a consultation strategy - the first step in developing a "2040 vision to double the value of production".

With demand for food production predicted to increase significantly, the agricultural industry faces real opportunity for growth as well as many challenges in positioning itself to capitalise on this future demand.

The Surat Basin region's agricultural sector has historically been a key economic driver for Queensland and will continue to be an important industry moving forward.

Strategically located to supply growing demand, particularly within the Asian markets, this region is a major producer of eggs, cotton, grain sorghum, wheat, pigs, beef cattle, fruit and vegetables.

Questions include:

  • How can we supply this growing demand?
  • How can we make the best use of resources?
  • How can we drive productivity?

Central to these discussions is the preservation and encouragement of more productive agricultural uses and securing reliable water sources.

Please participate in this consultation process to ensure the Surat Basin region has strong input.
