Country cowboys, colourful characters

A GROUP of young blokes have a yarn as they lean over the back tray of a parked utility.

With their wide-rimmed hats, they look like a bunch of country cowboys.

But these lads, who have graced the cover of this week's Rural Weekly, Corey Bella, Kaelan Jones, and Dylan Donohue, Ryan Johnsen, Keiran Shaw, Brad Micallef and Jesse Morton were taking a relaxing moment at the Sarina Show last weekend.

Enjoying the beautiful weather was an alpaca and a Scottish highlander, who were just some of the characters who spent the weekend at the Sarina Showgrounds.

The weather was magnificent as close to 11,000 people travelled south to Sarina to soak up some of the country air and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sarina Show Society president David Lemberg said the crowds were really pleasing and the numbers were up from previous years.

Some of the highlight events were the rodeo and the junior rodeo which was a new event for the show.

Along with the success of the rodeo, the calibre of the stud and beef cattle on show and the sugar cane was impressive.

The show featured the cattle and sugar cane, the traditional woodchop, the horse riding and the horticulture section; there was also many rides and entertainment.
