QUILPIE grazier Carolyn Burnes has been recognised as a leader in her field.

Ms Burnes, owner of AC Contractors and operator of Quilpie Cattle Spelling Yards, has been named a finalist in the 2012 Telstra Queensland Business Women's Awards in the marie claire Young Business Women's Award category.

An accredited stock and station agent, Ms Burnes also operates a franchise to sell livestock and rural property. One of her proudest achievements was in 2006, droving 1500 head of mixed cattle 900km for six months, mostly with the help of only one young jackaroo.

"Just keep being true to yourself and eventually all those who matter will respect you. The few who don't appear to, shouldn't matter to you at the end of the day," Ms Burnes said.

Warwick's Deeann Natividad has also been named a finalist in the White Pages Community and Government Award for her role as regional manager for Mission Australia's Employment Solutions Division.

Winners will be announced at a gala luncheon on October 5 in Brisbane.
